Getting Started with Cloudflare Workers

January 14, 2026·5 min read

Cloudflare Workers lets you run JavaScript at the edge, closer to your users than ever before. Unlike traditional serverless platforms that spin up containers on demand, Workers execute in Cloudflare's data centers across 300+ cities worldwide.

To get started, you'll need a Cloudflare account and the Wrangler CLI. Install it with npm, then run wrangler init to scaffold your first project. The configuration file defines your worker script and any bindings it needs—KV namespaces, D1 databases, or environment variables.

The beauty of Workers is their simplicity. Your handler receives a Fetch event and returns a Response. No servers to manage, no scaling concerns, no cold starts. Your code runs on every request, instantly.
